Matias H. Aznar III Memorial Day 2013


The Maritime Regiment of Southwestern University celebrated the Memorial Day for its founder, Engr. Matias H. Aznar III on December 13, 2013 at Aznar Coliseum (Azco) with the theme
“The Maritime Regiment fulfilling its mission amidst  adversity”.

The day began with the laying of the wreath to commemorate the event and silent drill presentation in front of the Matias Aznar statue followed by a inspirational speech given inside Azco by Mr. Uwe Rameken, an Seacrest Maritime Foundation Inc. (SMFI) board member, who was also a good friend of Engr. Aznars.  SMFI faculty and staff were then surprised by a video presentation recognizing the employees who had served the Regiment for many years.

In the afternoon,  activities such as a  chess competition, poster making contest, singing and dance contest and Bingo contest were held in the same venue. These events included the participation of not only the regiment cadets but also the faculty and staff of SMFI.

To end the night with a bang and to fulfill its theme, the Maritime Regiment held its its  Concert for a Cause to benefit the victims of Typhoon Yolanda, Mr. Maritime 2013, and Christmas Fashion Show.

Batch Marangal Recognition Rites 2013

The  morning  of October 24, 2013 was buzzing with excitement as cadets and instructors alike prepared for the annual Recognition Rites Ceremony. Batch Marangal, led by Cadet Commander Gimena, assembled outside Aznar Coliseum of Southwestern University with friends and family waiting in anticipation. Tirelessly, these cadets  have been preparing for the day the school-work would stop and experience would begin, thus, marking a new chapter in their lives.

Attended by faculty and staff of SMFI, as well as SWU Chairman Ms. Maris Holopainen,  chairman of SMFI, Mr. Andrew Aznar,  his wife and SMFI President, Mrs. Gina Aznar, benefactor Dr. Uwe Rameken and partner shipping company representatives, everyone was in attendance to witness all the hard work these young men put in to their education and to see their dreams finally come to fruition.
