Presentation of Sponsors and Military Ball- Batch Magiting

On the Morning of the August 29,  42 ladies from prestigious universities all throughout the province of Cebu arrived at Southwestern University to serve as partners and sponsors for the Maritime Regiment’s officers in the Annual Presentation of Sponsors (POS)and Military Ball. This perfect summer morning showcased the leadership of Cadet Commander Bacho as he and his staff led the 340 cadets of the regiment. With lady sponsors and regiment officers assembled in Aznar Ballpark, various shipping company representatives, Maritime Regiment staff and the university president, Dr. Noe. G. Quiñanola, were able to witness a timeless tradition.

As noon quickly approached and POS concluded, ladies and officers then prepared to attend the Military Ball held at Montebello Hotel and Resort. “Frozen” was the choice of theme for the evening with the lady sponsors beautiful and glimmering in their gowns. The officers as well, looked handsome and snappy in their white docks uniform. Both parties then preformed their song and dance numbers, thus concluding  spectacular day.


Siglakas 2014

From August 13 to 17, the Maritime Regiment participated in the annual Siglakas celebration of Southwestern University.

The regiment started the Siglakas celebration with a bang as they danced their way to gold in the Pop Dance competition and ended on a similar high note as they were awarded over-all champions for garnering the most number of medals in competitions such as volleyball, basketball, taekwondo and many more.



Earthquake and Hazard Awareness Seminar

On June 11, 2014 the Maritime Regiment, together with Seacrest Maritime Foundation, Inc. held a Earthquake and Hazard Awareness Symposium at Aznar Coliseum.

This event, attended by all regiment cadets, faculty and staff was conducted by the Human Resources department of SMFI with the participation of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOLCS) as well as the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF).

Due to the increasing number of earthquakes in the Visayas region, the PHILVOLS experts explained how faculty and staff could assist in ensuring the safety of all students as well as different safety measures that should be taken if an earthquake should occur.The ERUF Representativies on the other hand, brought tools and equipment and demonstrated different life-saving techniques and gave tips to everyone on proper protocols when faced with an emergency such as sudden heart attacks, seizures, etc.

The event ended with all students and faculty split into groups and were given an exciting a first-hand experience with the guidance of the ERUF team.
