Ormoc City, the largest city in Leyte, a neighboring island of Cebu, was the destination for the first ever “sea trip” of the Maritime Regiment held on November 29 to December 1, 2011.
All 1st and 2nd class cadets boarded the Roble Shipping lines carrier on the night of the 28th for a five hour trip where on board, they were able to experience what it was like to be on a ship not only as a passenger, but more importantly as future seafarers.
Because Ormoc City was also the location of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL), where the Southwestern University Cobras Mens Basketball Team competed against various teams across the Philippines, the cadets were able to witness and enjoy two nights of heated competition.
As the Cobras, won against Visayas champions, AMA Computer Learning Center Knights or ACLC of Ormoc city on the night of the 29th and unfortunately lost in a close match scoring 58-63 against the University of Cebu Webmasters on November 30, the entire regiment was there to support their fellow Southwesterners with various cheers and chants, filing the Ormoc Superdome with their liveliness and excitement.
During the two days, the cadets were given the opportunity to go around and experience all that there was to offer in the quaint city. As the morning of December 1st dawned, cadets then began to prepare for their trip back to Cebu City, which ended, a truly memorable and unforgettable experience for all.
